AditPlan

Project aims and objectives

As part of the development of a management plan for a wildlife reserve, there was a need to record features such as Dune Slacks, Gravel Pits, Archaeological Sites - well the list goes on.

Established recording methodologies were difficult to apply as they would not identify the extent of a given feature. They would only store a single point for position (usually a grid reference). Further, it would de difficult to track changes in the extent of an environmental feature over time.

The AditSite Development

Faced with the challenge of effectively recording environmental features the AditSite team came up with a new sort of item list to live alongside the established built in species lists.

When items from this new list are selected, AditSite expects a series of grid references (normally entered by clicking on a series of points on a map) that it can treat as the boundary of the feature.

If you click on the thumbnail below you can see the AditSite recording screen being used to define the boundaries of a Dune Slack by marking points on the relevant site map.

Once recorded, Environmental features can be plotted and tracked over time just as any other data recorded within AditSite. You can even use AditSite to measure the area of any given feature. Of course, the environmental feature list is not limited to the defaults supplied with the program - you can add to it to meet your specific survey or research needs.

You can see the data that was being entered on the recording screen above, being plotted on a map by clicking the thumbnail image below.
